Closer Look At N Spokane Country Homes Blvd Totem Pole

I have driven by the totem pole on Country Homes Blvd for years now, but never really paid much attention. Yesterday I was stuck at the light right next to it and took notice.
Initially I thought the character on the bottom was a police officer with all the drama in the news lately, I suppose this is what brought me to pay attention.
What I found out after doing a little digging is that the totem pole was created by Dave Evans and other scouts, Dave was the former scoutmaster of Troop 222, which created the totem in 1967. The group of 30 teenage and preteen scouts spent 750 hours over nine months carving the totem pole.
What a great project, take a few extra seconds to look up next time you are driving down the Blvd just before wall street if you are headed east.
The Country Homes area is a nice quiet suburb with most homes ranging in the 190k-250k price range. Great access to multiple parks, the highly rated Mead School District, Whitworth University, shopping, unique restaurants, and beautiful recreation areas such as the Little Spokane River Nature Area.
Just another cool bit of Spokane history, and another reason why #spokanedoesntsuck
